Following the Attorney General’s decision with the Governor to try to overturn the election by filing their lawsuit based on an anonymous letter from STRS employees I sent an email to our HCRTA members. We need to flood their offices with calls, emails and letters and do the same with local media.
HCRTA Members & Friends,
No doubt you have heard that the transparency reform candidate, Michelle Flanigan, won 85% of the vote and will be joining the STRS board in September. Also, last month the court ruled that Governor DeWine’s removal of Wade Steen from the STRS board last May was illegal and ordered Mr. Steen’s reinstatement. The “powers that be” in Columbus have been pulling out all the stops to try to preserve the status quo and prevent YOUR voice demanding reform from being honored. Governor DeWine, after the transparency candidate won by 85% termed this a “hostile takeover”. Based on an anonymous letter from STRS employees and no investigation, Ohio Attorney General has filed a lawsuit to remove two reform members of the STRS board. This, of course, would give the “status quo” folks the majority back and prevent efforts at ending the gravy train.
There was a packed house at the STRS meeting. I was one of the speakers who addressed the STRS board.
The governor, the attorney general, and their minions are putting out a lot of false information to confuse the public and generate support for whatever they will do next to prevent reform. I believe they are frightened at what will be revealed if the STRS deals with Wall Street are made public.
We need as many people as possible to get directly involved in support of transparency and reform at STRS. YOUR VOICE IS NEEDED NOW!

- Call the Ohio Attorney General (Dave Yost) and tell them you are against this political meddling in trying to overturn the results of a fair election. He should drop his lawsuit and support the reformers who are seeking transparency regarding the Wall Street investments. 800-282-0515 You can also send a letter to him. Attorney General Dave Yost, 30 E. Broad St., 14th Floor, Columbus, OH 43215. You can also send an email. (See below.)
- Call the governor’s office with the same message. 614-644-4357 Here is his address. Governor Mike DeWine, Riffe Center, 77 South High Street, Columbus, OH 43215-6117 You can also send an email. (See below.)
- Call area radio and TV stations with the same message. Write to area newspapers. The transparency and reform movement has been pushing for years for restoration of our lost benefits (30 year retirement and 3%COLA). The status quo STRS board members have refused to make the Wall Street deals public and STRS employees have received huge pay increases AND bonuses while teachers struggle to make ends meet without the COLA. Now that the reformers have a majority, the politicians in Columbus and the STRS insiders and trying to keep the gravy flowing by overturning the election.
